Hey guys, new here, and I'm completely new to the Wifi. I've had my Itouch for almost 2 years now, I have the first generation one, too.

Now, when I search for available networks, my wifi network that I WANT to connect to pops up first. But when I go to connect, it fails. It is security enabled, but when i go to the network's settings, everything (like the IP, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS etc.) is blank. What do I have to do to get the wifi to work? I'm shooting blanks here, please help!

I had the same problems. I contacted my Internet Provider ( Frontier). The problem was my wireless router. It had never been set up correctly. There was no password assigned to the unit, so it could never connect, even though I would get an IP number. The number started with 169. This is not a legitamite IP number. It should start with 192. My provider had to have me disconnect my cables from the router, except for power. Then I had to reset the unit with a little button on the bottom. Then they talked me through the unit set up and it works just fine. Call your providers tech support. It could be worth the time.

to all, I had the same problem, i pod touch g3, cisco linksys wrt160n, called tech support had to go to wireless mode call manual with setting the channel to 6. You do this by going into the internet and typing in the ip address of the router 192.168.1.1 and change/save the settings. As soon as this was done all my wireless devices ipod touch, laptop, wii starting working.

Cisco says there are so many wireless signals the devices get confused so setting a channel eliminates the confusion.

My Touch (32GB, not jailbroken) is but 4 days old, and I'm having problems using wi-fi. (Linksys/Cisco WRT54G2 router, home network, two computers connected by Ethernet, 2 occasionally by wi-fi, 1 cell phone by wi-fi). I can connect the Touch when I use *no* encryption at all, but not when I use *any* (WPA, WPA2, WAP128). I see that others have lots of wi-fi problems; has anybody had this specific one? I certainly don't want to walk about with my unprotected wireless connection hanging out.
